How to Prevent/ Manage Sore hocks?

Bedding:

There are several brands of veterinary beddingv(Knowns as Vet bed or Fluffy bed) on the market. It most closely resembles grass, where a rabbit would live in the wild. The few high light why using vet bed:

Vetbed drains & dries fast and keeps your pets warm and cosy.
It is suitable for every stage of your Pet’s life, it is suitable for babies, disable, sore hocks, elderly bun that hard to stand up and move around.
Excellent drainage properties

Put a layer of soft/ nonslip mat, a layer of absorbent or waterproof layers like puppy pad under it then fluffy bed on top as rabbits tend to wee on it, some rabbit may not like it in the beginning as they may feel tickle on their feet.

Pros: Great to keep the surface dry, soft and gentle for their feet. Long lasting if follow the washing instruction.
Cons: Can be Pricey if need to cover the large area.

Where to purchase: There is many online website offer the product, where we usually purchase out bed is http://Petnetwork.com.au
Other option is Sore Hocks Socks

There are 3 options for the socks:

1. You can purchase online, so far we haven’t found any business in Au that offer the socks. We purchased a while ago at MediRabbit, and second option is custom made by Laura at “ONE TWO HOP” On ETSY – Canada, which lower shipping fee to AU.

Pros: fancy looking, easy to put on, more comfortable with padding , different options available, re-useable and last longer and the best thing is you don’t need to make it.

Cons: more pricey as it is from oversea.

Would suggest for those that already use to socks just so they don’t attempt to destroy it.
2. Using Vet Wrap – PLEASE DO NOT attempt this wrapping procedure without the guidance of a rabbit vet/nurses who can check on the rabbit’s progress and change the dressing as needed!

Pros: Cheap, easy made

Cons: if use incorrectly (eg: too tight) can affected blood circulation. Not re-useable
3. DIY socks which you can easily find at your local shop or online and then re-make it to fit your rabbit. Thanks Fluffy-Bunny-Time (Melbourne Bunny grooming) for the idea.

Pros: affordable, easy purchase, can re-use

Cons: you will need to re-adjust the size, and easier damage.

Would recommend for rabbit new to socks as they will try to pull, chew the sock to remove it when they first use it.

Brand: Anko - Purchased at Kmart AU
Size S/M: Fit Small/Medium rabbit
Size M/L: Large/Giant

Step 1: Cut the toe area
Step 2: Put it on your bunny’s feet to measure it, the sock can then be stitched to fit well and to keep it from flipping down, make sure it is not too tight as it can cause swelling.
Step 3: Once it is completed, put the sock on your rabbit’s feet, you can also use either fur ball, or small cotton as padding to put it in the sock as well.
